The mission of the First Presbyterian Church of Mankato is to call people to glorify God and enjoy God forever. As members of the Body of Christ who rely on His Spirit, we commit ourselves:
- To proclaim the gospel of Christ
- To participate regularly in public worship
- To invite and welcome others into our fellowship
- To experience spiritual renewal
- To care for, challenge, and support one another
- To promote justice and peace in society
We recognize that being Christian is not easy. The modern world is full of competing claims asking for our loyalty and compromising our faith. Yet our faith is anchored not in what we are able to do of our own volition, but in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We, therefore, affirm with gratitude and hope that “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us” (Philippians 4:13).
As the future unfolds, we shall seek to be a community in which all participants are nourished with Christian gratitude and hope, and sent back into the world as faithful disciples of the living Christ.
As important as our individual Christian lives are, our identity and faithfulness as a congregation are no less significant. We worship and work not in isolation, but together as a community of God’s people. As servants of the risen Christ, we rely on the Holy Spirit to create the future God wants for us, giving us the courage we need to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
