Board of Deacons

“Not to be served, but to serve” Matthew 20:25

The board of Deacons mission is to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to anyone who may be in distress.  The board consists of 12 adults (in the past we have also had a youth member).  We tend to the needs (both physical and spiritual) of members in our church community and the surrounding communities at large.  We serve with the understanding that all of our contacts are private and confidential.

The deacons alternate with the Elders to prepare and serve monthly communion.  We administer the sacrament of communion to our homebound members and those who are unable to attend church regularly.  Through administering the sacrament, the Deacons hopefully maintain the bonds from our church with these church members.

We call and provide in-home visits with our homebound (shut-in) members of our church.

We appreciate help from our congregation in identifying those members who may enjoy a visit.  We deliver Lillis and Poinsettias to our shut-ins.  We arrange for delivery of flowers used at our Sunday Service, whether it’s one of our home connections or a member of our church whom is recovering from an illness.

The Deacons serve the Salvation Army Sunday Noon Meal four times per year.  We share this responsibility with 13 other area churches and the ELKS.  It’s an opportunity to minister and serve ‘face to face’ with those that need assistance in the community.  We were able to share this experience with 4 dedicated spouses of our Deacons.

We give financial help to those in need, whether it’s in our congregation or community.

In March of this year, we received enough donations that we were able to provide care kits to those we served during a meal at the Salvation Army.  The items included in the kits were personal care items, non-perishable food items, socks and more.  At Christmas, the deacons are in charge of decorating the church in preparation for Advent, along with taking down those decorations in January.  We provide assistance for the Caregiver’s support group, and 2 magazine subscriptions for our members, along with general support for our church members.
